How to check if a builder is registered
To check if a builder is registered, use the VBA's Practitioner Search.
Enter the builders surname in the Practitioner name field

Does the building practitioner have to be registered for domestic building work?
Each state has a different threshold for planning & building permits and, an example of this would be not for small repairs or maintenance, the building of a new structure greater than 10 square metres, or some financial threshold of example greater than $10,000.

Is the practitioner registered in the right category for your purpose, if you are building a two storey house then this person is not the right fit for you, unless he is JUST MAKING THE STAIRCASE.
